I was having porridge for lunch at home the other day.  My wife took the (cooked) cold chicken pieces out from the fridge and said, “Just put the chicken into hot porridge and it’ll be hot enough to eat after a while.  No need to microwave them.”  Boom!  Spiritual truth and lesson right there!  A cold heart, when totally covered and submerged into a ‘hot’ loving environment has no choice but be warmed up by the love around him/her.  (Told you before - my wife is wise!)

Godly Wisdom

In the recent case involving a high profile mega church leader who was found guilty of misappropriating a large amount of the church’s money, he posted on his Facebook on the day before he started his jail sentence that, “I have made unwise decisions in the past that have led me to where I am today.  I am filled with grief and regret over my mistakes and I sincerely ask for your forgiveness.”

My wife read the book “The Bait of Satan” by John Bevere recently and she shared with me what she learnt.  I would like to share some of these points in this reflection.

Lord, Let My Heart Be Good Soil

It has been an exciting year for our church life.  The decision to go back to basics by studying the book “Discipleship Essentials” by Greg Ogden has enabled us to focus again on what it means to be a disciple of the Lord.  But really, there should not be any distinction between a Christian and a disciple. Elder Kelvin Chen, in his sermon last Sunday (“Follow me, as I follow Christ”) reminded us that when we accept Christ as our Saviour and Lord, we not only become a Christian, we also become His disciple.  So we can’t say we are Christians, but we are not ready to be His disciples.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church…”Ephesians 5:25

By the Lord’s grace and mercy, Wilma and I will celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary tomorrow (9 June).  It has been a more-than-wonderful journey, not without its ups and downs.  But the Lord is gracious and He has lovingly led us through it all and blessed us with 3 wonderful children.  My heart is filled with gratitude, thankfulness and joy.
