Welcome to the The Boys' Brigade, First Singapore Company. Founded on 12 January 1930, it is the pioneer company in Singapore founded by James Milner Fraser who was a former member of The 23rd Aberdeen and The 33rd London Company. Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church and Pioneer Secondary School are the proud sponsors of The First Singapore Company.

Our Objectivies
The Object of The Boys’ Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tend towards a true Christian Manliness.

Our Motto
Sure & Stedfast
"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast" Hebrew 6:19

Founded in Glasgow, Scotland on 4 October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith, The Boys' Brigade is the pioneer uniformed Youth Organization. It is now an international organization.

It was the concern of the BB from the very beginning to engage Boys in meaningful activity during their free time and to develop them into Christian Citizens.

The Boys' Brigade has as its object "the advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tend towards a true Christian Manliness."

Our aim is for the BB Boys to grow just as Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favour with God and man (Luke 2:52). Hence, we have a four-sided programme based on the following core activities :

1. Spiritual - Christian Education and Moral Values
2. Physical - Drill, Adventure Activities
3. Educational - Citizenship, Personal Enrichment
4. Social - Civil Defence, Community Service

The BB programme also provides many opportunities for its member to develop their leadership potential. Suitable Boys are given responsibilities as NCOs or Squad leaders.

The basic unit of the Boys' Brigade which may be either based in a school or a church is the 'company.' Each week in companies throughout Singapore, BB Boys meet for drill parades and meetings under dedicated adult Officers. There are now 5000 members in 72 companies.

To effectively cater for the needs of its membership, The Boys' Brigade has three programme sections :

Section Age Range
Junior 8-12 years old
Senior 11-17 years old
Primers 16-19 years old

The Boys' Brigade is recognized as one of the schools' extra-curricular activities (ECA). Through involvement in national events and rendering of community service it actively participates in Singapore nation building.

BB Week 2008 Results – THANK YOU

Praise the Lord! We have received the official results of the BB Week from our Brigade HQ. Through your generous giving, our BB 1st Coy has collected a total of $40,603 during the BB Week, of which we will channel 40% of it to support our HQ and the balance to run our company activities. We are thankful that once again the Lord has supplied our needs abundantly through your giving. Pray with us that the Lord will give us wisdom to be good stewards of His resources. Pray that His Name will be made known to the Boys through the BB ministry.

BB Week 2008 from 9 March to 6 April

The Boys’ Brigade

6 April 2008

Dear Members and friends of Prinsep

Re: BB Week 2008 from 9 March to 6 April

Greetings in the name of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. We want to thank you for your generous support for the past 3 weeks. This has been a great encouragement for the Boys and Officers. TODAY is the last week where the Boys will be in church for the BB week collection. Once again, we seek your generous support to the Boys.

We want to share with you the programmes that we have planned for the Boys this year. These are some of the highlights in the coming months.

· BB Adventure Quest (April) – This is a national competition where it promotes characteristics of adventure, teamwork, endurance, fighting spirit and winning through fair means. We will be sending 2 teams to participate in this event.

·BB Enrolment Service (April) – This is an annually event where our Officers and Boys will be invited to renew their loyalties and enroll their membership officially.

· BB CARES (July) - The BB CARES (Community Activities Rallying Everyone To Serve) Programme involves all the Boys to provide fun and meaningful community service to an assigned Voluntary Welfare Organization. We want to nurture the Boys to serve and lead by using BB CARES as a platform to spread cheer to the less fortunate.

· BB Character Quest (September)– The Character Quest reinforces the Christian Education taught to the Boys. It is a National Bible Quiz where our Boys will be pitting against other companies Boys on the Christian Education.

· BB Sharity Gift Box (December) – At the national level, we want to bring cheer to the less fortunate during the festive season of Christmas through collection of gifts and to inculcate the spirit of community service among the Boys.

We will also introduce more exciting activities during the school holidays:

· Archery (both competitive and fun shooting),

· Combat Skirmish (a real-life combat weapon simulation game)

· Rock Climbing, Canopy Walk, Rappelling, High Rope Elements Confidence course

· Zovb (an enormous clear plastic, doubled layer air-cushioned push ball – a new teambuilding game in Singapore!)

· Air Rifle and Air Pistol Shooting

Praise the LORD! In the recent Friendship event, one of our Boys, Derek Ting, indicated his interests to know more about God. Do pray for the Boy unceasingly that God will open his heart and he will come to know God as his personal Saviour and LORD.

Thank you again for allowing us to share with you our programmes and good news. May the Lord Bless You.

Yours-in-Christ,

Ang Kok Wah

Captain, 1st Singapore Company
