Welcome Message from The Boys’ Brigade.
 |
 |

Welcome to the The Boys' Brigade, First Singapore Company. Founded on 12 January 1930, it is the
pioneer company in Singapore founded by James Milner Fraser who was a former member of The 23rd
Aberdeen and The 33rd London Company. Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church and Pioneer Secondary
School are the proud sponsors of The First Singapore Company.
Our Objectivies
The Object of The Boys Brigade shall be the advancement of Christs Kingdom among Boys
and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tend
towards a true Christian Manliness.
Our Motto
Sure & Stedfast
"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast" Hebrew 6:19
Founded in Glasgow, Scotland on 4 October 1883 by Sir William Alexander
Smith, The Boys' Brigade is the pioneer uniformed Youth Organization. It is now an international
organization.
It was the concern of the BB from the very beginning to engage Boys in meaningful activity during
their free time and to develop them into Christian Citizens.
The Boys' Brigade has as its object "the advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the
promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tend towards a
true Christian Manliness."
Our aim is for the BB Boys to grow just as Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favour with
God and man (Luke 2:52). Hence, we have a four-sided programme based on the following core
activities :
1. Spiritual - Christian Education and Moral Values
2. Physical - Drill, Adventure Activities
3. Educational - Citizenship, Personal Enrichment
4. Social - Civil Defence, Community Service
The BB programme also provides many opportunities for its member to develop their leadership
potential. Suitable Boys are given responsibilities as NCOs or Squad leaders.
The basic unit of the Boys' Brigade which may be either based in a school or a church is the
'company.' Each week in companies throughout Singapore, BB Boys meet for drill parades and
meetings under dedicated adult Officers. There are now 5000 members in 72 companies.
To effectively cater for the needs of its membership, The Boys' Brigade has three programme
sections :
| Section |
Age Range |
| Junior |
8-12 years old |
| Senior |
11-17 years old |
| Primers |
16-19 years old |
The Boys' Brigade is recognized as one of the schools'
extra-curricular activities (ECA). Through involvement in national events and rendering of
community service it actively participates in Singapore nation building.

Dear Members and Friends of Prinsep
Re: BB Week 2010 from 7 March to 4 April
This year, BB 1st Singapore Company celebrates her 80th anniversary. Over these years, we have witnessed our very own BB Boys, became members of Prinsep, took up leadership roles and are actively serving for the advancement of Christ kingdom. Our Boys have benefited from BB so much because of the generous support and prayers we received from you. We want to thank you for your partnership in this rewarding ministry by your continuous support and prayers in The Boys’ Brigade, 1st Singapore Company.
In our programmes, we seek to provide a wholesome range of activities covering the 4 aspects namely, Social, Physical, Educational and Spiritual that will ensure all-round development of the Boys. With the recent initiative driven by the BB Headquarter, we are teaching our Boys to develop good HABITUDES, which are having the right attitude & healthy habits. The aim is to transform our Boys’ lives by building Godly character and living out to right doing.
This year, we are blessed with 12 recruits and none of them has stepped into PSPC before. I would encourage you to show your love & hospitality by welcoming them when they turn up on 21 Mar for our BB week and render your generous support to them when they approach you for donation.
No amount is too small as every cent is put in for the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys. We thank you for your continual support through the years, giving generously during the BB Week so that our plans and activities for the development of our BB Boys can be carried out in Pioneer Secondary School. Do pray for us ceaselessly that God will bless the work of our hands and the plans we have made so that many Boys will come to know Him as their personal Saviour and Lord. May our Lord bless you.

To All Prinsepian's,
Thank you for all the support and prayers for 1st Singapore Company throughout these years.
With God's blessings, BBSGB has touched many lives in Singapore for the past 21 years. BBSGB is also the longest ongoing charity project today. This is the wonderful work of God.
This year, PSPC will be supporting this project again as a church by adopting 100 wishes in various groups as follows:
1. Children Wishes cap at S$60 2. Elderly Wishes cap at S$60 3. Family Wishes cap at S$300
The wishes are being carefully vetted by our committee with the help of the CDCs and the VWOs under the supervision of NCSS. Please rest assured that the beneficiaries have met the minimum requirements stipulated.
The most challenging group is actually the Family wish where a family income does not exceed S$1500 per month in order to qualify for this wish. (Most of the wishes are from single-parent families.) Meeting the needs of the families in this category is most challenging because the cap is at S$300, which may be a little overwhelming for an individual or family to fulfill. The three main items for this group are fridge, sofa and washing machine set. These 3 items actually is within the cap of S$300.
I would suggest that Cell Groups or ministries work on fulfilling these wishes. We would also encourage the adopting CG or ministry to make arrangements to personally deliver the item to the beneficiary family. Doing so would provide opportunity to make the contribution personal and meaningful.
There is another avenue by which you may participate in this year’s BBSGB. This involves the delivery of food hamper to the Public Assisted (PA) Recipients. We have collected and repacked the food items donated into food hampers at our BB HQ. We need volunteers to help in delivering them. Again, you may do this as a CG or family. If you do this as a family, your children will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the people who are needy in our midst.
We will be starting the operation in our church on 6, 13, 20 and 27 of Dec 2009. This means we have 4 Sundays to respond and fulfill the wishes.
1st Company BB, together with 1st SA, will assist in coordinating the BBSGB here in PSPC. You are most welcomed to donate food items like rice, beverages, biscuits and others.
Please feel free to approach the BB Officers and Boys on duty for further clarifications.

With thanksgiving to God, the Boys' Brigade (BB) movement in Singapore will mark its 80th anniversary in 2010. Since its founding on 12th January 1930, the BB 1st Singapore Company sponsored by Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church (PSPC) has the privilege of seeing many Boys pass through its rank and file to become godly men and leaders. Therefore, as part of the 80th anniversary celebration, the Stedfast Association (SA) 1st Singapore Company has set up a BB Heritage Corner in PSPC to showcase our collection of BB memorabilia as a testimony to God's faithfulness.
We will like to invite PSPC members and supporters to witness the opening of this BB Heritage Corner by our Guest-of-Honor, Eld SP Chua, on Sunday, 13 September 2009. In addition, we will also decommission the current Colour of the 1st Company and dedicate its new Colour at the 11am worship service. The reason for the changing of the Colour is because the current Colour of the 1st Company is not of the standard size used by other BB Companies. Since there will be a trooping of the Colours next year to mark the 80th anniversary, the 1st Company will like to take this opportunity to dedicate its new Colour and then display the old Colour in the BB Heritage Corner. This will be a historic occasion for the BB, SA and PSPC and your presence at this worship service will be deeply appreciated.
Programme on Sunday, 13th September 2009
10.15am: Parade by BB 1st Singapore Company (Courtyard)
10.25am: Arrival of the Guest-of-Honor – Eld S.P. Chua Opening of the BB Heritage Corner
11.00am: Dedication of the New Colour at the 11am service (Sanctuary)
The congregation is invited to a buffet reception in the Fellowship Hall after the 11am service. Please note that the courtyard will be closed for the parade. Members are kindly advised to park their cars at other locations. For enquiries, please contact: • Mr Ng Kum Chuen (Chairman, SA 1st Company) (actsplan@singnet.com.sg) • Mr Ang Kok Wah (Captain, BB 1st Company) (angkw111@yahoo.com.sg) • Pr Darryl Chan (Chaplain) (darrylchan@pspc.org.sg)
