Welcome Message from The Girls’ Brigade.

The Girls’ Brigade (GB) is a Christian Uniformed Group - recognised by the Ministry of Education (MOE) as one of the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) in school.

Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church is the sponsoring church to The Girls’ Brigade Singapore 7th Company since 1950. Currently the Company is operating at Pioneer Secondary School in Jurong West Street 81 on Saturday mornings from 9am to 12 noon.

7th Coy is one of the evangelistic arms of the church. We are thankful to God for bringing this privilege mission field to our doorstep! The aim of GB is to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, through reverence, self control and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life.

An Update and Appeal fromThe Girls' Brigade, 7th Company Singapore
Dear Brothers and Sisters,

How time flies! It has been three month since I am involved in GB. How I went in with trembling fear not knowing what was in store. I struggled with memorizing the girls’ names (especially those who only have Chinese names), building relationship with the 2 Teacher-in-charge, understanding the various terminology used, etc… It was a totally new ball game compared to Sunday School.

At the beginning of this year, the girls were able to join the Ladies’ Ministry in their tour round Labrador Park. It was led by Mrs Helena Poon and she made Singapore history come alive, real and closer to the girls. Many of them enjoyed the tunnel experience. We also managed to get 6 girls to join the Ladies Ministry High Tea and the girls had so much fun and were already looking forward to come back again next year. Such activities help them to feel comfortable mingling with church members and I think we have managed to achieve that.

This year, 9 out of the 13 Sec 1 girls are involved in the National Day Choir contingent. Hence, they were not able to join us since May. In order to maintain contact with the girls, we organized a full day outing to Escape Theme Park and Wild, Wild Wet for the girls. The girls were very appreciative of our generosity and for most of them it was their first time to these places.

We don’t just have fun, we also work hard too. Through your generous support in March, the Sec 4 girls successfully raised sufficient funds for their International Badge. After rounds of training in June, the Sec 2 girls also passed their Archery test and earned themselves a Badge each.

I think the greatest achievement the girls felt was when they practice hard for the cooking competition. Through their hard work and team spirit, they won a Silver trophy. In this event, the Sec 3 girls also managed to raise enough money, through their games stalls, for their International badge.

Besides imparting Christian values to these girls, we, like all parents, also help to motivate them to study hard so that they can enrol in a course they aim for after their ‘O’/’N’ level. As there were sufficient helpers to run the activities for the past months, I was able to free up some of my time to coach one of the Sec 4 girls for her “N” level in September.

We want to thank you – Prinsepians, in your giving of your possession.Your partnership has allowed us to carry out our activities smoothly.

We look forward to God’s leading and provision.

Thank you for your generous support and God bless! Mrs Jess Goh-Sim Acting Captain

About 30 Girls will be in church this Sunday and next Sunday for their GB Fortnight collection. Many of them will be afraid to approach you. About 13 of them are first timers and therefore shy. You will definitely encourage them greatly with your generous support and warmth.

3 steps to a “fun” raising: 1. Plan how much you intend to support through donation cards 2. Prepare loose note (like preparing for CNY “Ang Pow”) 3. Sign on as many cards as you can

The Girls will surely have a lot of fun doing fund raising this way!

An Update and Appeal fromThe Girls' Brigade, 7th Company Singapore
The Girls' Brigade 7th Company based in Pioneer Secondary School wishes to express our thanksgiving to God for the partnership of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church as our sponsoring church. During our previous appeal for a new GB Captain in late 2008, Mrs Teo-Chan Se Sam responded to the Lord's call and has been serving as the Acting Captain for the past year. She will be stepping down from the Captaincy after the BB/GB Enrollment Service in April 2010 but she will remain as an Officer in the Company.

Since last year, we have been praying, searching and speaking to a few ladies to consider the GB Captaincy. However, no candidate has yet to be found. As such, the 7th Company will like to make an appeal to femaile members of PSPC who are of sound Christian character and have the burden for this ministry to consider coming forward as candidates for the GB Captaincy. In the event that we fail to appoint a new Captain by April 2010, the 7th Company will have to be released to the sponorship of another church or even closed down.

The GB ministry provides trememdous opportunities to advance God's kingdom by reaching out to the Girls with God's Word and love. We have the manpower (teachers in charge, officers and helpers) and financial resources for this mission field, but yet it will be such a great loss of outreach opportunities should be discontinue this ministry for the lack of a Captain/Acting Captain. if you like to find out more about the roles and responsibilities of the Captain/Acting Captain or about the GB ministry, please do not hestitate to contact Pr Darryl Chan (63370595; darrlychan@pspsc.org.sg) or Mrs Teo-Chan Se Sam (98576547; sesamchan@hotmail.com) by 21 March 2010.

Our experiences of God's faithfulness and provision give us the faith and hope that in His sovereignty, He will provide all that is needed to continue His work. Please join us in earnest prayer for God to move in His sovereign way to bring about His kingdom pruposes: "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matthew 9:37-38).
