Love in Action is a social concerns ministry of Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church (PSPC). It was officially launched on Sunday, 14 September 2014. Our vision is to become active witnesses serving our community, reflecting God’s Love and Hope in Christ Jesus. Our mission is to mobilise, engage and equip everyone at PSPC to serve our community in partnership with like-minded people and organisations. It is currently supporting the Prison Ministry, Sarah Senior Activity Centre (SSAC) outreach and Singapore Management University (SMU) Host Family Programme. It is also looking at expanding its support for Hannah Senior Activity Centre (HSAC).
Our work in Prison Ministry started in 2009 when two of our cell groups were involved in distribution of hampers to the families of inmates during Christmas as part of the Prisons Fellowship Singapore (PFS) Angel Tree project. It has since grown to provide in-care, after-care and family care services in partnership with PFS. The Prison Ministry had organized regular outreach events such as Chinese New Year Celebration, Movie Night cum Fruit Party and talks to engage and share the gospel with the clients and their families. It is our hope that more of PSPC’s brothers and sisters will avail themselves to this worthy cause.
PSPC’s partnership with SSAC started since 2012 under the Ladies’ ministry. Together with cell groups and member volunteers, we have organised talks, sharing of testimonies, lunches, outings, screening of movies, home visitations, handicraft, festive and outreach programmes for about 40 seniors on the third Saturday of each month.
We are also partnering Covenant Presbyterian Church in conducting the senior community Chapel Service for the seniors on every third Saturday of each month. We hope to reach out to the seniors at SSAC through these monthly activities with the gospel message and by God’s grace to lead them into a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus!
As from the middle of the year 2016, some of PSPC’s members are availing themselves to support the Hannah Senior Activity Centre through conducting art and craft and chinese painting classes. This is a new and exciting ministry opportunity and we hope that it can continue to grow and blossom under the Lord’s guidance.
Being located in close proximity to SMU provided us the opportunity to partner SMU as host families for their international students in 2006. It allowed our families in church to befriend young people from different cultural backgrounds and to help them adapt to the Singapore way of life. Although we are not allowed to proselytize, there were many opportunities for us to reflect God’s love and hope in the different occasions we shared.
As a ministry, we hope to live up to our vision and mission and make a difference in our society as disciples of Christ.
