SSSG

Prinsep Street Presbyterian Church
Support for Seminary Student Guidelines (SSSG)
Aims & Objectives
  1. To go beyond what the Prinsep Internship Programme (PIP) governs and provides.
  2. To provide guidelines concerning the support of students doing fulltime Seminary training.
  3. To complement overall missions strategy of the church.
Scope
  1. The SSSG is applicable to local and overseas candidates enrolling for fulltime theological studies with recognized Bible colleges, Universities and Seminaries (hereinafter refer as Seminary). The list of recognized theological institutions and academic programmes is set out in Paragraph 8.
  2. All candidates will only be considered for support upon recommendation from the Pastoral Team and approval by the Session.
Requirements
  1. In the case of a Local Candidate (LC), he/she must first and foremost be put through the PIP and assessed suitable by his/her Mentor (who would either be an Elder or a Pastor assigned by the Session to provide pastoral care for the candidate).
  2. In the case of an Overseas Candidate (OC), the following basic requirements shall apply:
  • He/she must be a citizen/resident from a developing country.
  • He/she must provide two references (one of whom must be his/her pastor) from home country who has known him/her for at least five years.
  • He/she must have the intention of returning to home country to serve upon completion of studies.
  • He/she must meet the basic entry requirements of the Seminary (e.g. English language proficiency).
  • He/she must become a member of PSPC upon successful admission to the Seminary.
  • He/she must subscribe to the doctrines as enshrined in the Westminster Confession of Faith. In the event the candidate changes his/her position on doctrinal issues that PSPC thinks is fundamental, his/her support will be subject to review and PSPC reserves the right to terminate support.
  • He/she must be regular in church attendance, except for the period or duration where he/she is serving Field Education elsewhere.
  • He/she must serve his/her Field Education in PSPC for at least ONE TERM in the course of studies.
  1. 1.3 Both LC & OC must be assessed psychologically suitable for full-time ministry by a counseling centre acceptable to PSPC.
Finance
  1. The support give to the candidate comprises two components: Tuition Fees, Personal Allowance and Book Allowance.
  2. The Tuition Fees will be based on the Seminary’s prescription or recommendation.
  3. The Book Allowance will be a maximum of S$400/- per year on a reimbursement basis.
  4. The monthly Personal Allowance will be differentiated as follows:

    Personal SGD $1500
    Non-Working Wife SGD $200
    Children Ages 1 - 6 SGD $100
    Children Ages 7 - 12 SGD $150
    Children Ages 13 - 17 SGD $200
  5. The monthly Personal Allowance stated in the table above represents recommended maximum amounts, but where there are extenuating circumstances, the Session may consider varying the monthly Personal Allowance on a case-by-case basis.
Pastoral Care / Accountability
  1. A Supervisor (who shall be either an Elder or a Pastor) will be assigned to mentor the candidate through regular meeting for prayer, encouragement and accountability. The candidate shall diligently attend all such meetings with his/her Supervisor.
  2. The candidate will be called up for an accountability session with the Supervisor if his academic aggregate falls below 2.7 (GPA or equivalent).
  3. All transcripts should be seen by the Supervisor and discussed between him and the candidate.
  4. It is the responsibility of the candidate under support to report to the Supervisor of any disciplinary action brought against him/her either by the Seminary or the State.
Termination
  1. PSPC may, as a consequence of the matters described under Paragraphs 5.2 and 5.4 or a breach of this SSSG, terminate support for the candidate by giving the candidate written notice of termination.
  2. If the candidate terminates support under this SSSG during the course of studies without good reasons acceptable to PSPC or has his support under this SSSG terminated by PSPC, the candidate may be required by PSPC to refund all amounts disbursed up to the date of termination.
