“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”  This was the proclamation made by a great company of the heavenly host that appeared to a group of shepherds one otherwise ordinary night as they tended to their flock.  Luke 2:8-14 records for us this amazing event that first Christmas night.

I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me. I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul. (Jeremiah 32:40-41, ESV)

Psalm 98:4-9 (NIV)

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with music;

make music to the Lord with the harp,

with the harp and the sound of singing,

with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn—

shout for joy before the Lord, the King.

Let the sea resound, and everything in it,

Inheriting the Kingdom of God through Love, Joy and Peace

            This week and next, PSPC will be focusing on the Fruit of the Spirit in our sermon series. In line with this, I would like to invite you to reflect with me on Galatians 5:19-24 where the Apostle Paul reminds us of the constant battle raging inside us, and exhorts us to replace our old nature with our newly-endowed nature given to us through the Holy Spirit.

Our old nature in the flesh…

If God is Sovereign, Why Do We Pray?

          If God, who is omnipotent (all powerful), omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time), and omniscient (all knowing), why then do we need to pray? What could we possibly tell God, or ask from Him, that He does not already know? In Isaiah 65:24 God says, “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear” (NIV).

God’s Sovereignty and God’s Mercy – Two Infinitely Strong and Tender Pillars of Truths

I have been using John Piper’s Solid Joys daily on-line devotionals this year for my morning quiet time, and have found it tremendously encouraging as he brings to mind the many wonderful truths and promises from God’s Word. As I was flipping through my own devotional notes in preparation to write this week’s Reflections, I was reminded of one that particularly spoke to me recently. The devotions for that day brought to mind two incredible truths and I thought I will share this with you today.
